For these two figurative sculptures I have unified to singular narrative work that are presented on a pedestal of two books referring to the Bible (New and Old Testament). The base gives added on context to the story with have the literal subject (education) based on Christian theology. The narrative is of the negative perceptions of homeschooling and how it is always on the attack; this is represented on one side of the piece. The first sculpture is the literal backstory to the second sculpture and represents homeschooling persecution through a bust with a house for a head that has its fourth wall removed. This is done to show the inside like a doll house but instead of furniture are books and an apple to represent learning/knowledge. The arrows with red tips and feathers (to represent danger) hit the roof of the house and penetrate in some areas, cutting close and even hitting some of the objects inside. With the two busts backs facing each other it strikes curiosity for the the second sculpture which is a bust a graduated figure holding a diploma with a blue cap and ribbon to represent intelligence. The presentation of these pieces is set up to tell a story of “no matter your educational background; the end goal is the same”. The is a work that has a strong personal meaning for me because this is the type of background and education I was raised with.
